Hello all. I hope this letter finds you well and happy. This is your official invitation to the 21st annual Congo Homecoming, to be held July 31st. Sign in will be at 11:00am at the Congo Community Church and gathering in the church at 12:00pm. Lunch will be potluck, so bring your favorite dish. Bean soup, brats and corn will be served in the pm. Entertainment provided by DJ, Ron Campbell. There will be games throughout the day for young and old alike.
We are excited about this years event as we always are. Our theme this year is Patriotic Pride. Show your patriotism this year by dressing red, white, and blue. We want to help support our troops who continue to fight for our freedom as numerous citizens from Congo and the surrounding are have done in the past. They will continue to do so in the future. We are proud of our soldiers and uphold them and their families for the sacrifices they have made and continue to make our country safe.
Bring your families back to where their roots began, and some of you, where they have just started. Meet your neighbors and have a great afternoon of fellowship. The Association is working diligently to continue to preserve our small entity.
Michelle & Kevin Wilson, Gladys Conway, Tina Ciber, Robin Wilson, and Seth Altier volunteered their time with Hungarian Association in 2009 at the shelter house during their tour of our area. This is a great link to the community's past and very rewarding to some of the visitors.
The Association, also, continues to maintain the park, church, and food center. Several families were assisted last year with their Christmas wishes. Another family who had lost their home to a fire in the surrounding community were financially assisted as well.
Money was achieved through Tri-County Community Action to demolish abandoned and condemned houses in Congo. The money will be available in the near future and demolition will begin.
The Congo sign, located at the top of the hill, we repainted by Lisa Newman. Thanks go to Bob and Connie Spergin for maintaining the sign at the bottom of the hill.
Elected officials this year are Shana Altier, Pres., Kendra Wilson, V. Pres., Kelly Spergin, Sec., and Jamie Spergin, Treas...
Upcoming events this year, is the Haunted Forest which will be held on October 1 and 2 in the Congo/Monroe Twp. Park. Rain date will be the following weekend. For a haunting good time, come on over to the forest this fall.
The website for Congo information is This site is maintained by Paul (Jones) Reside.
We look forward to seeing you this year and joining in with you to show your Patriotic Pride. God Bless America. Land that I love.
